Solar energy is produced by collecting sunlight and converting it into electricity by way of solar panels through an inverter to the electrical circuits. Solar power can be used for grid tie, grid tie with battery backup, and off-grid. The solar power can be from one module to several modules depending on how big the system needs to be.

Off-grid

Solar power systems for off-grid have more components therefore, they cost more usually between $8 - $12 per watt

Grid-tie

A grid-tie system has fewer components and is therefore less expensive than an off-gird system usually between $6 - $8 per watt
